“This is not a normal Fashion Week,” Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council (BFC) said of London Fashion Week June as the three-day event got underway. “We wanted to create a cultural moment with the aim of igniting the imagination with a focus on storytelling.”

At this summer edition of LFW, which ran from 7th to 9th June, the overriding focus was on — as per Rush’s words — “the breadth of British menswear and the storytelling that makes British menswear unique.” While adhering to that brief, the event threw up more than a few surprises.

It was the kind of innovative spirit that could inspire your own fashion business — even if it has not yet been given a stage as high-profile as London Fashion Week.

Drawing upon our own expertise in fashion website development here at Skywire London, we can play a major part in elevating your luxury brand.

Becks puts on his specs for an opening-day speech

Yes, David Beckham was in attendance at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) on the Friday morning, in his capacity as the BFC’s ambassadorial president.

The former captain of the England national football team reflected on his previous experiences of LFW and paid tribute to the UK capital’s “diverse mix of fashion businesses — from Savile Row tailors to sportswear,” with British fashion continuing “to influence and have an impact worldwide.”

The man might be famously nicknamed “Golden Balls”, but the Daily Mail came up with a new moniker for him — “David Spec-ham” — in reference to the slightly orange-tinted glasses he wore as he addressed the crowd.

Charles Jeffrey’s Loverboy label marks its 10th anniversary

If you aren’t up to speed with much of Scottish designer Charles Jeffrey’s work from the last decade, you now have an ideal opportunity to rectify that oversight — as a retrospective exhibition themed around Jeffrey’s output is being held at Somerset House until 1st September 2024.

It was in this Georgian-era complex’s courtyard that many of the designer’s creations — including arrow-pierced minidresses and cartoon-style naval jackets — were paraded on LFW June’s first day.

The open-air catwalk even saw appearances from a few famous faces — including legendary model Erin O’Connor, singer Beth Ditto, and Vivienne Westwood’s granddaughter Cora Corre.

HARRI teams up with Nemo after the latter’s Eurovision triumph

The Indian-born designer HARRI (or to use his full name, Harikrishnan Keezhathil Surendran Pillai) has become renowned for his unorthodox latex pieces — including one famously sported by singer Sam Smith at the Brit Awards in February 2023.

At the Royal Academy of Arts’ Benjamin West Lecture Theatre on the morning of Saturday 8th June, the Swiss music act Nemo sung their Eurovision-winning song, “The Code” live — all while wearing a HARRI-designed white latex gown which blew up to enormous size.

“This showcase took six pairs of hands, 300 seams and over 300 hours to produce, from conception to completion,” HARRI himself told the enchanted audience.

Our professionals at Skywire London can apply meticulous care and attention to your own fashion brand’s publicity drive by leveraging fashion website development, search engine optimisation (SEO), pay per click (PPC) advertising, and other strategic, creative, and digital interventions.
